Guardians Rays ALCS Game 4 postponed — Schedule update published October 17, 2026: The Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays were scheduled to play Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday, October 17, after rain forced Major League Baseball to postpone Friday’s game in Cleveland. The revised start is 8:08 p.m. Eastern. Game 5 moves to Sunday, October 18, at 5:08 p.m. Eastern, according to MLB’s official announcement.
Cleveland leads the best-of-seven series 2-1. This October 17 schedule notice mattered for fans arranging travel, viewers planning their weekend and both teams managing pitching workloads. It is a schedule change, not a result: Game 4 had not been played when the postponement was announced.
Guardians Rays ALCS Game 4 postponed: Revised schedule
MLB’s October 16 notice confirmed that Game 4, originally set for Friday, was rescheduled for Saturday, October 17, at 8:08 p.m. ET. Game 5 was rescheduled for Sunday, October 18, at 5:08 p.m. ET. If needed, Games 6 and 7 remain on Monday and Tuesday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, with 8:08 p.m. ET starts.
The league’s postseason schedule lists Saturday’s game on TBS, truTV, HBO Max and UniMás. Availability depends on the viewer’s provider and subscription. Check your local television guide and the latest MLB schedule before first pitch.
Why was Game 4 postponed?
Major League Baseball attributed the postponement to inclement weather in Cleveland. Its official postponement statement did not announce a final score or a shortened game. Fans should avoid social posts presenting a Friday Game 4 winner; no such result existed.
Rain delays and postponements can change baseball’s rhythm, particularly during a postseason series when starting pitchers, bullpen availability and recovery days matter. A rest day can benefit tired relievers, but it can also interrupt momentum. Neither effect guarantees a winner.
How does the delay affect the ALCS?
When the Guardians Rays ALCS Game 4 postponed announcement was issued, the Guardians entered the contest with a 2-1 series advantage after taking Game 3. A Cleveland win on Saturday would move the team within one victory of the American League pennant. A Tampa Bay win would tie the series at two games apiece. Those are scenarios, not predictions.
Managers may reassess how aggressively to use relief pitchers because the remaining games are compressed into consecutive dates. An extra day before Game 4 may improve some players’ rest while reducing recovery time between later contests. Any confirmed starting-pitcher change should be checked against the teams’ official lineups rather than assumed from the postponement alone.
Fans should also distinguish the series schedule from the separate World Series schedule. The National League champion Milwaukee Brewers have already qualified for the World Series, which MLB says begins Friday, October 23. PPF Informer previously explained how Milwaukee swept the Dodgers. The Brewers’ opponent will be the ALCS winner, not whichever team is leading after three games.
What should ticket holders do?
Do not assume that the printed date on a ticket automatically determines the game number after a postponement. MLB’s official release includes revised ticket instructions, but fans should confirm their specific ticket through the Guardians’ official account, ticket provider or ballpark box office. Ticket-transfer and resale rules can differ from a simple date change.
Anyone traveling to Cleveland should verify the new start time, stadium entry instructions, local weather and transportation options. If a seller offers a replacement ticket through an unfamiliar payment link, check the transaction through the original authorized ticket platform.
Guardians Rays ALCS Game 4 postponed: Broadcast details
The confirmed revised start time was 8:08 p.m. ET Saturday. MLB’s updated postseason schedule identifies TBS, truTV, HBO Max and UniMás among the viewing options. Streaming rights and sign-in requirements vary, and some services require a paid subscription. Viewers should use official broadcaster listings rather than unofficial streams or unsupported promises of free access.
For a verified game result, live scores and lineups are available through MLB’s schedule and game center. The league can still issue updates if weather or operational conditions change.
